Our tour guide was outstanding! Two and a half years ago, I visited Istanbul for the first time and explored it on my own with a friend. This time, I wanted to introduce the city to my boyfriend and and this tour was the perfect beginning to our Istanbul journey. Fener and Balat are rich in history, and guide brought that history to life with passion and knowledge. She was incredibly respectful both toward us as a group and the heritage of the area. She is truly one of the best guides I’ve encountered in over 25 years of travel. Her English is excellent and she always looked after the group while still giving us the freedom to explore at our own pace without losing the rhythm of the tour. She's highly educated and eager to keep learning; for example, when it came to the pronunciation of the Bulgarian church, she was open to correction and curious to get it right. All three of us really enjoyed our time with her. She also showed great consideration for the locals by giving explanations slightly away from private spaces. A fantastic experience.

Our guide was knowledgeable and approachable. We explored a section of Istanbul that we likely wouldn’t have found on our own. Communication before the tour was excellent. Be cautious of shoe shiners targeting tourists near the starting point we fell victim to the “drop the brush” scam. The tour was excellent, giving us plenty of time to take in the incredible sights while learning the rich history behind them. Our guide made the experience even more special by learning everyone's name and always being ready to answer questions and assist in any way he could. From the colorful houses to the Greek and Bulgarian Orthodox Churches, and the impressive old Greek High School, each stop was fascinating and full of cultural depth. Experiencing the legacy of the diverse communities that once lived here was truly memorable. Unfortunately, due to current political tensions, we weren’t able to visit any of Istanbul’s synagogues, but even so, the tour was absolutely worthwhile. I highly recommend it to anyone interested in exploring the historical layers of the city.

The tour was organized with great professionalism and skill. The guide struck a perfect balance between sharing historical facts, visiting key sites, and telling meaningful stories. His passion for the neighborhood was clear, along with his dedication to preserving and promoting its unique character. Personally, I would have preferred fewer of the "Instagram friendly" stops in favor of spending more time in the traditional Edirnekapi area, especially near the Church of Saint Savior in Chora (Kariye Museum). That said, I still highly recommend this tour!

The tour was interesting, mainly thanks to the guide’s strong knowledge of history and clear explanations. However, the area itself didn’t quite meet my expectations it wasn’t very clean, and there weren’t many notable sights to see. I would recommend this tour primarily for the guide’s insight and storytelling. One thing to note: if you’d like to take photos with the decorative umbrellas, you may need to purchase something from the nearby shops, as locals generally don’t allow pictures otherwise.

Excellent walking tour through a culturally rich part of the city. We saw churches, mosques, synagogues all close together and it really helped us understand Istanbul’s complex history. Our guide was respectful and informative. Good pace, not tiring.

We went with our 10 year old daughter and she loved the colorful houses and staircases. I appreciated the historical parts especially the Church of Saint Mary of the Mongols. Very nice guide, clear explanations, and a small group made it even better.

Great way to explore beyond the touristy parts of Istanbul. I’d never heard of most of these sites before and was surprised by how much history is packed into a small area. The wooden homes and Greek school really stood out. Plus, good coffee at the end.

I’m so glad I found this walking tour. It gave me a calm, thoughtful introduction to two of the most fascinating districts in Istanbul. The guide struck the right balance between history and casual storytelling. I would definitely recommend it for solo travelers.

It was quite underwhelming overall. I had higher expectations going in, but it didn’t live up to them. I wouldn’t choose to do it a second time, and it’s not something I’d suggest to others.

The guide was truly excellent, very knowledgeable and engaging. However, the area we explored felt somewhat run down, which made the overall experience a bit less impressive than expected.

Some of the stops felt overly long, with a bit too much detail at times. That said, it’s genuinely enjoyable to stroll through the narrow streets, take your time, and soak in the charm of getting a little lost along the way.

We really enjoyed exploring Fener and Balat such a different vibe compared to the tourist heavy areas. The guide was friendly and knew a lot about the different communities that lived here. Only downside was the group size it got a bit crowded at times.

A beautiful walk through neighborhoods with real character. I loved the colorful houses and learning about the Greek and Armenian history. I just wish we had a bit more time to sit and soak in the atmosphere at the coffee stop.

Great for history lovers! My teens were a bit restless near the end, but we all appreciated the uniqueness of the route. The Iron Church was our favorite. The guide was passionate, but sometimes spoke a bit too quickly for us to follow everything.

Seeing the synagogues and churches in such a small area was impressive. I liked that the tour went off the beaten path. It did feel rushed at certain points, especially around the Greek school. A bit more pacing would’ve made it perfect.

Loved the contrast between the colorful stairs and the historical sites. Our guide shared interesting anecdotes, though some spots were a bit crowded due to other tour groups. Still, a really enjoyable experience overall.

We had a great time wandering through the alleys and spotting traditional timber houses. The neighborhood has charm. It’s not a flashy tour, but if you like local culture, it’s worth doing. Only small issue was the meeting point wasn’t super clear.

It was special to see the house of Dimitrie Cantemir as a Romanian! The tour felt personal and insightful. I gave 4 stars because the walk was more physically demanding than expected with all the hills and stairs, so be prepared.

Really appreciated the focus on Greek heritage in Istanbul. It was moving to see the Church of Saint Mary of the Mongols. The only reason it’s not 5 stars is because the group was a bit large, which made it hard to ask questions.

It’s the kind of tour that reveals layers of the city you wouldn’t find on your own. The synagogues and the Iron Church were highlights. We moved a bit fast for my taste, though, so I didn’t get to enjoy each stop fully.
