Overview

Start your day at the Kabatas ferry terminal, conveniently located near public transport. Here, you'll exchange your voucher for a round-trip ticket to the Princes' Islands. As you board the ferry, a Marine Officer will greet you, provide a detailed itinerary, and share tips about the sights along the way. The journey across the Marmara Sea offers breathtaking views of Istanbul's iconic skyline, setting the perfect tone for your day.

The Princes' Islands have been a retreat for centuries, from Roman emperors to modern-day visitors. Buyukada, the largest and most famous of the islands, awaits with its historic charm and tranquil atmosphere. Step off the ferry and take in the old-world beauty of traditional wooden villas and a pace of life that feels frozen in time.

Buyukada offers freedom to explore at your own pace. Whether you prefer a leisurely stroll or an energetic bike ride, the island has something for everyone. Visit the Merkez Eczanesi, a pharmacy dating back to 1870, and feel transported to another era. Stop by the ruins of Trotsky's villa, where he wrote his autobiography and works on the Russian Revolution. For stunning panoramic views, hike or cycle to the Greek Orthodox St. George Church, perched on the island's highest hill.

Indulge in the culinary delights of Buyukada's harbor, home to charming restaurants and cafes offering fresh seafood and traditional Turkish dishes. Enjoy a leisurely meal overlooking the sea or grab a quick bite at a local eatery. For relaxation, head to the island's public beaches or private beach clubs for swimming and sunbathing.

As your day comes to an end, board the ferry back to Kabatas, departing at 3:30 PM. Reflect on your tranquil escape from the city as the ferry glides across the Marmara Sea, returning you to the vibrant heart of Istanbul. This day trip strikes a perfect balance of adventure, history, and relaxation, making it a must-do experience.

We only purchased ferry tickets but loved being out at sea. The boat ride lasted about two hours, offering a perfect mix of sunshine, shade, and sea breeze. There was an affordable buffet and drinks available on deck. We visited the largest island, Büyükada, which we highly recommend. It was busy but enjoyable. We took a later ferry back and stopped at Burgazada Island, which was quieter and cozier. We swam there and plan to visit just the smaller islands next time. The sunset on the way back was stunning. A wonderful day.

We thoroughly enjoyed the boat trip which lasted about two hours. Sailing along the Bosphorus was lovely, and the good weather made it even better. Booking was straightforward and much cheaper than through tourist offices or hotels. The island was quite touristy, and the swimming beach was far on the opposite side, but you can rent bikes or taxis. We preferred the cruise part of the trip the most and left early.

The Princes' Islands are definitely worth a visit, but the stated travel time is misleading—it’s a two-hour trip each way. This is essentially the regular public ferry presented as a tourist option. You stop at every island along the route. It’s cheaper to buy a regular ticket unless you use the audio feature. I’d suggest taking the earliest boat to have more time on the island. Also, just be aware that beaches are closed until mid-May.

The islands were charming, but the logistics left a lot to be desired. We were supposed to have free access to an audio guide, but it didn’t work unless we paid again. At the ticket counter, we were told our pass would allow us to stop at Heybeliada first and then go on to Büyükada. However, the boat didn’t allow passengers to disembark at Heybeliada and continued straight to Büyükada. When we tried to stop at Heybeliada on the way back, they refused to accept our original ticket. It took quite a bit of arguing before they finally let us through, and I doubt it would have worked if I wasn’t fluent in Turkish. The entire situation felt disorganized and stressful.

The guide's role was limited to handing us the ferry tickets, which actually cost more than if we had bought them ourselves we could’ve saved our money. Clean boat, friendly staff, and beautiful destination. The café on the ferry was a nice bonus. Slight delay during boarding, but otherwise it was a lovely experience.

This was a very scenic and relaxing ferry trip. The islands are charming and easy to explore on foot or bike. A little more time on the island would have made it perfect.

The ferry was well-maintained and left right on schedule. I enjoyed the peaceful vibe of the islands. Only issue was the crowd at the dock when returning to Istanbul.

Great value for a day out. The boat ride was scenic and relaxing, and the seafood on the island was excellent. Some minor confusion with the meeting point, but we figured it out.

A great way to spend the day away from the city. Beautiful houses and clean air on the island. I just wish there were more shaded areas during the afternoon heat.

Ferry was clean, staff polite, and schedule reliable. We loved renting bikes and exploring the island at our own pace. Could use a bit more signage for tourists.

Everything was well organized, and the ferry ride was smooth. The island has a charming atmosphere and lots of good food options. It was a bit too hot in the afternoon, but still very enjoyable.

Very easy process from booking to boarding. The islands are lovely, and we had a great lunch there. My only suggestion would be to allow a bit more time for exploring.

We had a very relaxing trip. The ferry was punctual, and the scenery was stunning. The island was nice, though quite busy by the time we arrived.
