Koh Ker & Beng Mealea Full-Day Join-in Tour | ®ExcursionMania

We embarked on a full-day tour of the Koh Ker ruins and Beng Mealea temple. Our day began with a prompt 7:40 a.m. pickup from our hotel. We met the other guests at Nearadey Café and departed at 8:30 a.m., with each group traveling by car according to their specific tour itinerary. Our group consisted of just two guests, so we traveled in a minivan with our driver and guide. Larger tours with more participants utilize a bus. The journey to the Koh Ker ruins took approximately two hours. The site is vast and stunning, built over a millennium ago, yet it vividly conveys the grandeur of its ancient civilization. Climbing the main pyramid (Koh Ker) offered spectacular views of the surroundings, and the refreshing breeze made the experience even more enjoyable. We had lunch at a restaurant near the Koh Ker ruins, visited two additional temples, and then traveled for an hour to Beng Mealea. This temple is a captivating ruin enveloped by jungle, which adds to its mysterious and adventurous atmosphere. I was very glad to have visited. We returned to Siem Reap around 4:30 p.m. Our guide provided careful and detailed explanations throughout, making the tour exceptionally informative and enjoyable.

Our guide, RY, was excellent. He was incredibly knowledgeable, offering detailed insights into each of the archaeological sites we visited. He also went out of his way to help us capture some great photographs. I would highly recommend this tour to others.

Our experience was wonderful, largely due to our excellent guide, Mr. Phyrom, and our highly skilled driver, Mr. Chen. Mr. Phyrom's knowledge was incredible; he provided extensive information on Cambodian history, culture, and even the local plant and animal life, making the tour feel like a fascinating history lesson. Both he and Mr. Chen were exceptionally kind, helpful, and friendly. The vehicle was clean, comfortable, and air-conditioned, and our pickup was perfectly on time. The entire operation was seamless; the company adhered strictly to the schedule. Every staff member we encountered was punctual and professional, from the pickup team who brought us to their charming coffee shop waiting lounge, to those who directed us to our next vehicle. The organization was impeccable. Thank you for facilitating such an educational and visually stunning journey.

I booked the day trip to Koh Ker and Beng Mealea, and it was the absolute highlight of my visit to Cambodia. The tour is exceptionally well-organized, allowing you to appreciate a significant number of temples in the Koh Ker area, including the famous pyramid, before culminating in the breathtaking Beng Mealea. My guide for the day, Phyrom, was superb. His knowledge of Cambodian history and each individual temple was profound. His explanations were delivered in very clear English, and he was always ready to answer any question I had at a moment's notice. A special mention also goes to our driver, Veng, who navigated the region safely and provided a remarkably smooth and comfortable ride. If you are interested in exploring some of Cambodia's most stunning, off-the-beaten-path temples, I highly recommend booking with this agency.

I experienced this tour on May 3rd, and it was truly remarkable. The remote temples of Koh Ker are a hidden gem, offering a less crowded and deeply historical atmosphere. The ruins are distinctly different from the main Angkor complex, featuring unique architecture and a profoundly peaceful ambiance, particularly the pyramid structure. Beng Mealea was another standout, with its jungle-enveloped ruins creating the feeling of stepping directly into an adventure. This was my second excursion with Chenda, and he delivered an outstanding performance once again. He provided insightful commentary on each location and ensured we had ample time for personal exploration and photography. His assistance with photos and his consistently friendly demeanor significantly enhanced the enjoyment of the day. For those seeking the most incredible temple archaeological sites in Cambodia, this is a must. Located about two hours north of Siem Reap, these sites see far fewer visitors, as most tourists only take short trips to see Angkor Wat. While well-maintained, these temples feel like undiscovered gems. This is your chance to explore true "Indiana Jones" locations, featuring pyramidal temples you are permitted to climb, and vine-covered ruins that evoke the feeling of the Amazon or ancient Mayan sites. The combination of stunning architecture and overwhelming jungle growth makes this a rare and special adventure. Our personal guide, Ponlok Mao, who is affiliated with this tour, was a significant bonus—his expertise, wonderful personality, and attentive service were outstanding. I took the Koh Ker and Beng Mealea tour with Siam Reap Shuttle on March 10th, 2025. Our guide, Pip (also known as Pheap), was absolutely excellent—he was the best guide we had during our three different tours in Siem Reap. The pacing for the day was perfect. We had plenty of time to explore each location thoroughly without ever feeling rushed. Pip shared a wealth of fascinating information with us, but also knew when to step back and give us space. There was a great balance between detailed explanations, answering our questions, and allowing us quiet time to simply absorb the magnificent sights and enjoy the serene atmosphere without a constant narrative. The small group size of six people was ideal for this kind of excursion. The minibus was comfortable, with strong air conditioning, and was driven very safely. I am not usually one to leave reviews for tours or hotels, but I simply cannot remain silent about this one. The experience was truly amazing. The temples are breathtakingly beautiful, and being part of a small group of just seven people meant we often had the sites almost entirely to ourselves. However, this tour would not have been nearly as extraordinary without our guide, Chenda. His knowledge of the temples and their history is profound. I have done other tours in Angkor with two different guides, but they simply did not compare to Chenda. He doesn't just recite a memorized text; he genuinely shares his deep expertise, which undoubtedly comes from his academic background in archaeology. And as the French say, the "cherry on the cake"—or as I would improve it, the "cherry on the icing of the cake"—is that this man is a genius when it comes to photography. He knows all the perfect spots and takes stunning pictures of the entire group, and he also offers to take amazing individual photos. I truly believe that Chenda himself deserves a 5-star rating. Regardless of the tour itself, he elevates the experience two steps above any possible rating. A big thank you to you, Chenda. You made my day absolutely fantastic.

Although it was an English group tour, it felt like a private experience as there were only two of us participating. The pyramids of Koh Ker, newly designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, are a remarkable addition to the area, and I believe they will quickly grow in popularity. Our guide, Mr. Phyrom, is exceptionally knowledgeable. He has a wonderful ability to understand and engage with the participants' interests. He is also highly skilled at photography, knowing all the most scenic spots to capture the best pictures, making him an outstanding guide. I had an incredible day traveling over 75 miles from Siem Reap to explore Beng Mealea and the Koh Ker temple complex. The hotel pickup was extremely efficient and punctual, and I was brought to a comfortable waiting lounge and café where we met our guide, Ho Heang. We were fortunate to have a very small group of just three people, which allowed Heang to provide a great deal of personal attention and thoroughly answer all our questions. His knowledge of the history of the sites was outstanding, and he skillfully pointed out fascinating details while explaining the stories and mythology behind the carvings. He also took numerous excellent photos of me at each temple. Heang's English was exceptional, and I was deeply impressed by his professionalism, friendliness, and genuine enthusiasm for sharing his expertise. I found the tour to be an excellent value given the distance covered, the company’s use of a qualified freelance guide and driver, and the frequent offering of cold towels and water upon returning to the minivan. I can wholeheartedly recommend this tour and would personally recommend Heang as a guide for temple exploration.

This is a note of appreciation for an outstanding tour. Our group today was wonderfully small, with just the three of us. I imagine many travelers might skip this tour due to the longer distance, but it is absolutely worth the journey. The lack of crowds means you never have to wait in line for a perfect photo opportunity. The temples are truly magnificent, set against a backdrop of beautiful, dense forest. I was pleasantly surprised to find no bugs, just a few friendly geckos. Our guide, Phyrom, and our driver, Lis, were both exceptional—incredibly friendly and polite. We felt exceptionally well taken care of throughout the day. Phyrom was immensely patient with us, even though we were quite a handful! The boys spent the day bombarding him with the most unusual questions, and he always had a knowledgeable answer. I, meanwhile, was focused on photography, and he consistently offered the best ideas for shots. He took numerous brilliant, Instagram-worthy pictures of me. To me, this is the mark of an excellent guide: the ability to read the group and adapt accordingly. Years from now, I may not recall the exact construction dates or dimensions of the temples, but I will always remember how wonderful the day felt and how well I was treated. Thank you, Phyrom and Lis!

Early on, we realized I was one of only two foreign visitors to the temple that day, which made the experience feel even more special and off the beaten path. This tour ended up being the highlight of my trip—surpassing even the temples at Angkor. The ruins were absolutely breathtaking, and I’m still in awe. I wholeheartedly recommend both this tour and Phyrom.

The tour was excellent. The places we visited were incredible—each temple was unique in its own way. One of the temples even had stairs you could climb, and the view from the top was amazing. Our tour guide, Pip, was very helpful, especially when it came to taking photos. Here’s an example below.

We had a wonderful day exploring five temples hidden within the forest, surrounded by ancient trees. The tour was very well organized, and our guide, Sopheap Rath, shared extensive information about the temples we visited—Beng Mealea, Koh Ker, Prasat Pram—as well as insights into nature and modern Cambodia, giving us a well-rounded experience. I would also recommend this tour for families.

Guided by the charming Mr. Tola and a driver who drove so smoothly I almost nodded off, the whole day flew by in no time. Don’t miss visiting Demeria—it has a scenery that looks just like the world of Laputa.

It’s hard to find the right words to describe this excursion. Throughout the entire day, we only came across five other tourists. We had the incredible temples almost all to ourselves, guided by John, who was perfect—well-prepared, kind, and gave his all. Thank you, John! Make the journey because it’s truly worth every kilometer.

This was a wonderful experience, far from the crowds of Angkor Wat, which can often feel overwhelming. When surrounded by too many people, the magic tends to fade, but that wasn’t the case on this trip. The temples were incredible and truly fascinating to explore. With only three of us on the tour, we essentially had the temples all to ourselves. A special thank you to Phyrom, who was incredibly kind, professional, and knowledgeable. He shared deep insights into the rich history of the area, making the day even more memorable. It was a beautiful experience, and I’m already looking forward to my next adventure. Thank you so much, Phyrom!

His enthusiasm for history made the whole journey even more meaningful. He made sure we didn’t miss any of the highlights. Sor, our driver, made the trip smooth and comfortable. After each temple visit, he was always ready with a refreshing cold towel, which was a thoughtful touch. I highly recommend discovering Beng Mealea and Koh Ker with Siem Reap Shuttle Tours!

Koh Ker and Beng Mealea are must-see sites, though not the easiest to reach on your own. This time, I joined a tour, and it truly made my wish come true. I believe it was the best decision. I thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Many thanks to Mr. Silong, our guide, and the team for their care and attention.

The full-day tour to Koh Ker and Beng Mealea with Siem Reap Shuttle Tours was amazing. Our guide, Mr. Chenda, shared his deep knowledge and passion, bringing the temples’ history to life through engaging stories. He also took some wonderful photos for us! The jungle-covered ruins of Beng Mealea were breathtaking, and the view from the top of Koh Ker’s Prasat Thom pyramid was truly unforgettable. The small group of just four people, including our guide, made the experience feel very personal and relaxed. I highly recommend this tour!

This tour was truly satisfying! The hotel pick-up was punctual, and any questions I had were answered right away, so I felt completely at ease. Even during the drive to the ruins, which are a bit farther away compared to Angkor Wat, we learned about Cambodia and stopped at a fantastic restaurant for a meal. The main ruins themselves were incredible. If you’re a fan of Ghibli, this area is definitely worth visiting.

I had a fantastic day trip thanks to my guide Tola and our driver. Visiting the world cultural heritage site of Koh Ker was truly exciting. It’s a great chance to experience Cambodia’s rural side and has a bit of that Indiana Jones adventure vibe. So far, it still feels like a hidden gem since there were very few other tourists around.

No other local travel agency matches the kindness, patience, and deep knowledge of national heritage like Siem Reap Shuttle Tour and my exceptional guide, Chenda. The drive to Koh Ker takes about two hours from Siem Reap, and Chenda spoke as if we had known each other for years. Throughout the tour, he explained everything with great patience, care, and thoughtfulness, so I could share all the details with my friends and family back home. On top of that, he took more than 200 amazing photos for me! I’m deeply thankful once again.

I joined a small group tour with Siem Reap Shuttle Tours to Beng Mealea and Koh Ker, led by our guide Sopheap Rath. With only two people in the group, it felt almost like a private tour. These temples are definitely worth visiting as they offer a different experience compared to the main Angkor sites. We learned about Cambodian culture and some historical background of the places we visited. Although communication was sometimes a bit challenging, overall it was fine. Mr. Rath was very patient and even took some great photos of everyone on the tour. He also surprised us by including a visit to Prasat Pram, a small temple hidden in the jungle, which was truly amazing. Overall, I really enjoyed exploring these lesser-known sites outside of Angkor.
