Does Bodrum have a beach?

Yes, indeed! Bodrum is located on a peninsula where the Aegean sea meets the Mediterranean and it has several beautiful beaches. Just imagine spending the day with your family in a nice, quiet cove where you can relax on the clean sandy beach or swim in the clear, blue waters. Which beach you choose depends on what you want to do and whether you prefer quiet beaches off the beaten track or lively, touristic areas. Some beaches offer water sports and camel riding and others are good for sunbathing. Here are some of the most highly recommended beaches in Bodrum.

Beach activities

As the name suggests, Camel Beach (or Kargı) offers camel rides along the beach where you can sample the breathtaking scenery. It has a bar and is family-friendly with lots of sun beds. Fener (Lighthouse) Beach is perfect for water sports due to its windy location which also makes it a great place to fly kites. It is less wavy in the mornings so this time of day is preferable if you don’t have much windsurfing experience. Water skiing is one activity on offer at Gümbet beach. It has clean, soft sand, sun loungers and umbrellas and its shallow waters make it a good location for families. Small children can paddle safely while older ones enjoy a banana boat ride. Another location with calm, shallow waters is Karaincir beach, just east of Akyarlar.

Fish Restaurants

If you want to sample the local cuisine, Gümüşlük beach has some very good seafood restaurants along the shore where you can have a few drinks and a nice dinner while watching the sunset. You can swim among the ancient ruins of Myndos, now covered by sea, or go kayaking.

Peace and Quiet

The locals would probably recommend less commercial areas such as the remote Kargıcak Bay, which is accessible by car. If you are willing to take the bumpy ride you will be rewarded with stunning views and a peaceful atmosphere. You can either take a packed lunch or visit nearby Seagarden and get grilled local fish with chips and salad from one of the tour boats. You can stay at the nearby Ipek Garden Palace Hotel. Another quiet beach is Yalı on Gerenkuyu Bay. It has very few visitors but the beach has a cafe with nice food at reasonable prices as well as clean toilets, showers and changing rooms.

The Kempinski is a very comfortable hotel at this location. Kadikalesi is another tranquil, sandy beach in a rural village setting with local cafes and restaurants serving home-cooked food. It is near Turgutreis beach where you can watch the glorious sunset. If you want to swim in crystal-clear waters the best place would be the pebbled Yahsi beach, near to the quieter Ortakent. You can buy crafts at the stalls or visit a local restaurant. With so many things to do and such great locations, who could resist a beach holiday in Bodrum?
