Overview

The Auschwitz-Birkenau Memorial and Museum is a powerful and emotional experience, offering a deep dive into one of the darkest chapters of history. This site was the location of the infamous Auschwitz concentration camp and its companion, Birkenau, where over 1 million lives were lost during the Holocaust. Located just a short drive from Krakow, this UNESCO World Heritage site is not only a somber reminder of the atrocities committed during World War II but also a place of reflection, remembrance, and education.

Your journey begins in Krakow, where you will be transported to Auschwitz-Birkenau by comfortable bus. Upon arrival, you will receive an informative brochure in your preferred language to guide you through the museum and memorial grounds. The brochure provides detailed explanations of the history, personal stories, and artifacts found within the museum, ensuring you gain a deep understanding of the significance of the site.

As you explore Auschwitz I, the main camp, you’ll walk through its original barracks, visit the execution wall, and observe chilling exhibits, including photographs and personal belongings of the victims. The haunting memories of the lives lost here are brought to life by the powerful visual displays, allowing visitors to engage with the past in a respectful and reflective manner.

Next, you’ll visit Birkenau, the second and larger camp, where you’ll see the memorial site for the victims. The infamous Judenrampe (selection ramp) where prisoners were chosen for forced labor or extermination is one of the most powerful sights in the camp. The train tracks, still standing today, symbolize the brutal transportation of Jews and others to this hellish site.

While exploring, you are free to move at your own pace, allowing you to spend time reflecting in the quieter parts of the camp or reading the detailed descriptions provided in the brochure. A tour assistant will be available throughout the day to offer assistance and answer any questions you may have.

This tour is an essential experience for history lovers, those with an interest in WWII, or anyone wishing to pay their respects at one of the most profound memorials in the world. After the tour, you will return to Krakow by bus, reflecting on the emotional and educational journey you have just experienced.

The meeting time was early in the morning, but we got back by 2 PM, so I still had time to explore in the afternoon. Our guide was very kind and attentive throughout the tour. For the price, I would definitely recommend this trip!

Everything went smoothly with great pick up and professional service from both the driver and guide. The only minor downside was the wait time between the two camps, which made us rush through the end of the visit. Still, a very meaningful and well organized tour overall.

This excursion was really well organized from start to finish. We were picked up right in the center of Krakow and taken by bus to Auschwitz (about 1.5 hours). We got our paper tickets and then headed to Birkenau, where the visit was self-guided but started with an English briefing and a helpful brochure in our language highlighting key spots to see. We spent about 2 hours exploring Birkenau on our own, then took a yellow shuttle bus back to Auschwitz for another 1.5 hours of self guided time. Adrianna was an excellent guide she provided detailed information well before the trip and stayed in touch via WhatsApp throughout the day, which was really comforting. The round trip transport is included, which makes everything super convenient. Highly recommended!

From start to finish, Kaan was incredible. He shared so much knowledge and made the whole experience really heartfelt by expressing how much the history means to him personally. You can tell he’s truly passionate about his work. On top of that, he surprised us with an extra stop that was absolutely amazing. The music on the bus was a nice touch too! Overall, a fantastic experience I’d highly recommend.

It was a long and tiring day, but everything was well planned. We did the self guided tour, which gave us some flexibility. There were quite a few guided tours going on, so at times it was a bit hard to get close to certain spots and some people weren’t very considerate. Still, it’s a must do experience if you’re visiting.

The day went really well overall. There was a lot of walking, which was a bit tiring, and the place was quite crowded with many guided tours at the same time. Sometimes it was hard to see things clearly with groups blocking the way. But despite that, it’s definitely worth a visit if you want to understand the history.

Adrian was amazing at making sure we got to all the right spots smoothly. Even though our tour was self guided, she shared great info along the way that really helped. From pickup to ticket collection to the museums, everything was well organized and hassle free. I liked that the self guided format gave us more time to explore at our own pace. Definitely great value for money I’d recommend it to anyone!

Our guide was excellent very knowledgeable and engaging throughout the visit. However, the museum itself felt quite disorganized. We ended up waiting over 3 hours in freezing cold weather just to get inside, which was tough. There was also some confusion about our tickets afterward, which was frustrating. Despite that, the experience and what we learned made it worthwhile.

Great experience overall! The guide was really helpful and sent some useful info via WhatsApp beforehand, which we could translate. However, for those who don’t speak any English, it was a bit tricky to fully understand the schedule and how the day would run. Luckily, there were other French speakers in the group who helped explain things. It would be better if all the info was provided in multiple languages, but still a very enjoyable day.

The trip itself was smooth, but I expected to start at Auschwitz and then visit Birkenau, not the other way around. This switch changes the story flow of the iconic camp. I had visited 10 years ago, so I ended up guiding my partner, which was nice. Besides the tour, the museum felt a bit disorganized due to too many tourists.

The trip went well, but starting at Birkenau instead of Auschwitz was surprising. It kind of disrupted the historical narrative. Since I’d been before, I helped explain things to my friends. The museum seemed overwhelmed with tourists and was a bit chaotic.

There were way too many queues. We waited two hours just to get tickets, then had to queue again to enter the last part of the museum at 5 pm. We kept watching the clock to fit it all in and catch the bus. Arrived at 9:30 and didn’t leave until 7:30 pm way too long of a day. But the museum itself was really interesting. Wish they’d warned us about the long waits.

There was no Hungarian info or help, which made things tricky. It seemed like Hungarians weren’t very welcome, but we’re not all the same. Another bus driver helped us with a map and directions, though we didn’t understand everything. A written guide with times and locations would help a lot. We ended up rushing and waiting a lot, so I plan to come back to enjoy both camps more calmly. Otherwise, the trip was fine and I’ve recommended it to others.

Big bravo to our tour leader, who was great throughout! The only downside was the tour organization. They said it would last 7 hours, but most of that time (except the travel) was waiting around, because the actual visit only takes about 3 hours. They should be clearer about the itinerary. Even though we had tickets, we waited in line a lot and only started visiting at 1:30 pm, though we arrived at 10:30. Also, leaving Auschwitz I for last (which needs more time) meant we couldn’t visit it calmly because we had to rush back to the bus.

The tour leader was wonderful. However, the pick up time was really early, which was tough. The transfer driver struggled a bit with traffic and weather conditions. Waiting in line was long, and after about two hours, we had to wait even more just to collect brochures on the bus. Also, info about the correct queue at the entrance wasn’t clear. Definitely room for improvement.

The Auschwitz Birkenau memorial was very moving and a must visit. Unfortunately, we had just two hours inside the museum when it really needs 3 or 4 hours to explore properly. We stayed with the group the whole time, so missed out on a lot of details. The departure time from Krakow was listed as 8 am but was actually 5 am, with the tour starting at 9 am. Our guide was lovely though very patient and cheerful, which made a big difference.
