Overview

This full-day guided tour takes you to the Auschwitz-Birkenau Memorial and Museum, a UNESCO World Heritage Site located about 70 km from Krakow. The site serves as a poignant reminder of the Holocaust's atrocities, offering an unparalleled opportunity to reflect on this significant chapter of history. Your journey begins with a convenient hotel pickup in Krakow, ensuring a stress-free start to the day. The comfortable ride to Auschwitz-Birkenau allows you to relax while the driver provides insightful context about the site, preparing you for the experience ahead.

At Auschwitz I, your professional guide will lead you through the main camp, including the infamous gate bearing the chilling inscription, “Arbeit Macht Frei.” Key areas such as the barracks, gas chambers, and crematoria provide a vivid account of the camp's function and the harrowing experiences of its prisoners. The guide’s narration adds depth, making the visit both educational and emotionally impactful.

The tour continues to Auschwitz II-Birkenau, where the scale of the Holocaust becomes even more evident. This expansive camp once housed over 90,000 prisoners. As you explore remnants of the railway tracks, barracks, and the ruins of gas chambers, you’ll gain a deeper understanding of the tragic events that unfolded here. This part of the tour is both sobering and profoundly moving.

Designed to be immersive without overwhelming, the itinerary includes ample time for reflection at both sites. Breaks are thoughtfully planned, allowing you to process the intense emotions the tour evokes. This experience is not just about remembrance but also about education and respect for those who suffered. It is best suited for individuals over the age of 14 who wish to deepen their understanding of history in a meaningful way.

Very good experience overall. Although the early 6am start was tough, everything was well organized and the day flowed smoothly. There was some queueing due to the site's popularity, but that was expected and didn’t detract from the visit. The tour guide at the memorials was excellent and added great value to the experience.

We were picked up at 6:15 from our chosen pickup point in a comfortable 7-seater van and driven about an hour and a half to Auschwitz I. There, we met our guide, Ziggy, who led a group of around 20 of us through the site using headphones, making it easier to hear him clearly. Ziggy was extremely knowledgeable and shared many detailed insights about the horrific events that took place. We learned a great deal

Overall, the trip was very good—informative and deeply sobering. I only wish we had more time to walk around and take in more of the site at our own pace. A particularly meaningful moment was when our guide learned that I had family members who had been through Auschwitz—she kindly arranged for someone to help me search the list of names of those who were there. It was a touching gesture that meant a lot.

This was a deeply meaningful experience that allowed me to witness and reflect on a tragic chapter of history firsthand. The schedule was well organized and everything ran on time. The guide provided kind and informative explanations throughout the tour. My only criticism is that the guide’s English pronunciation was sometimes unclear, which made it hard to understand certain parts of the commentary.
