Overview

Immerse yourself in the evocative charm of Vyšehrad, Prague’s legendary fortress perched high above the Vltava River on a rocky promontory. Steeped in myth and history, this ancient noble seat offers sweeping panoramic views across the city and a captivating blend of architectural styles spanning centuries. Once the royal residence of Bohemian kings, Vyšehrad endured invasions and wartime destruction before transforming into a majestic Baroque fortress, now surrounded by serene green parkland that contrasts beautifully with its military past.

Begin your journey at the Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul, a breathtaking church rebuilt in neo‑Gothic style, featuring twin spires and stunning Art Nouveau frescoes that adorn its interior. As you step inside, the silence and artistry transport you back through centuries of devotion and Czech heritage. Then stroll through the Vyšehrad Cemetery, one of the most important burial grounds in the country. This solemn yet beautiful place is the final resting site of many Czech cultural icons—Antonín Dvořák, Bedřich Smetana, Alfons Mucha, and Karel Čapek among them. Every grave tells a story of talent, sacrifice, and national pride.

Next, descend beneath the surface into the mysterious casemates—an underground network of stone corridors designed for troop movement, storage, and secret defense. Your guide will lead you through this eerie labyrinth to the monumental Gorlice Hall, where massive Baroque statues once adorning Charles Bridge now stand silently, rescued from the elements and preserved in this atmospheric chamber.

This off-the-beaten-path tour offers a peaceful escape from the city’s bustling tourist areas. With entry tickets, public transport, and a knowledgeable English-speaking guide all included, this experience is ideal for history buffs, art and architecture lovers, and curious travelers seeking to connect with a deeper layer of Prague’s soul.

It was just my mom and me with the guide, which felt like a stroke of luck. He shared a wealth of interesting facts and stories. The enchanting location surrounded by beautiful foliage made it a truly memorable experience. I highly recommend it.

We really enjoyed the tour. It would have been helpful to take a break halfway through, as there was so much to learn. My wife loved the historical information as well as the views. I enjoyed it all, but my favorite moment was seeing the six original statues preserved underground from Charles Bridge.

This is definitely one of the best tours in Prague. The area is breathtaking, highly walkable, and steeped in history. The tour also includes entry to the Church of St. Peter and Paul, undoubtedly the highlight, and the magnificent cemetery. The beauty of the church is truly beyond words. Be sure to book this tour. You won't be disappointed.

Our guide was very enthusiastic, kind, and knowledgeable, but the tour itself wasn't particularly exciting. Still, Vysehrad Castle is definitely worth a visit. It's a bit long, so I recommend shortening the tour to about 2.5 hours.

There was no return to the original meeting spot, so I had to rely on Google Maps and navigate the metro on my own.

Our guide, Lubo, was fantastic. He was very knowledgeable and we learned so much. The tour was wonderful, especially Gorlice and the Cemetery, both breathtaking. Vyšehrad is truly beautiful. The only downside was that we didn't have enough time to take all the photos we wanted. Overall, it was a great day.

The tour was quite comprehensive. Although the presentation was only in English, the casemates were particularly interesting. We managed to grasp most of it, but some details were inevitably missed. Fortunately, a German speaking guide stepped in afterward and clarified everything. Overall, it was a very good experience.

The tour started off great, but when it was time to explore the tunnels, our guide told us we'd be transferred to another guide. Unfortunately, this second guide told us the rest of the tour would be conducted in Czech. After our first guide left, we didn't understand anything that happened next. We tried to treat it as an adventure, but overall, it was quite disappointing.

Martin was extremely knowledgeable and took his time to answer all my questions patiently. However, I nearly missed the tour because he hadn't raised his usual orange umbrella and was waiting on the stairs in the middle of the National Museum, rather than at the designated meeting spot right in front of the museum.
