Our teens finally put down their phones! The drive to Uzungöl had them glued to the window – those misty valleys and pine forests are something else. The lake itself? Unreal. We took a hundred reflection photos. Sumela Monastery stole the show though; climbing to that cliffside wonder felt like stepping into a history book. Our guide made the frescoes come alive with stories. Minibus was comfy, but pack snacks – lunch isn’t included and the kids got hangry by 2 PM. Teens voted it their favorite day in Turkey.

As a solo traveler, I loved the mix of nature and culture. Uzungöl’s serenity was perfect for sketching. Sumela Monastery’s cliff-hugging architecture blew my mind – the hike up was steep but worth it. Guide knew his stuff but rushed us through frescoes. Minibus had strong AC (a lifesaver!). Wish we’d had 30 more free minutes at Uzungöl to sip çay lakeside. Still, a solid day trip from Trabzon.

With a 5-year-old and 8-year-old, we worried about the long day... but the scenic drive felt quick! Uzungöl’s ducks kept the little one entertained while we sipped tea. Sumela’s staircase was tough for small legs, but our guide paced it kindly. Kids gasped at the ‘castle in the mountain.’ Minibus had car seats – huge plus. Bring jackets; it got chilly up high.

Photographer’s dream! Uzungöl’s mirror-like lake at dawn was magical. Sumela Monastery? Dramatic beyond words – shot a roll of film on the stairway ascent. Guide explained fresco symbolism beautifully. Minibus left exactly on time. Only note: Monastery crowds thickened by noon. Go early!

Romantic but crowded. Held hands walking Uzungöl’s shore – so peaceful! Sumela took our breath away, though selfie sticks ruined the vibe. Guide was passionate but hard to hear in big groups. Minibus seats were snug. Still, sipping tea overlooking the monastery? Priceless.

Four friends, one epic day! The winding roads had us belting songs. Uzungöl’s beauty is no filter – we paddled a rowboat (small extra fee). Sumela’s cliff perch is insane! Guide cracked jokes while teaching Byzantine history. Minibus playlist was weirdly Spanish pop? Fun surprise. 10/10 for views and laughs.

Teens loved Sumela’s ‘game of thrones’ vibes but groaned at the 300-step climb. Uzungöl was relaxing – we fed ducks and bought honey souvenirs. Guide was engaging though rushed lunch (not included, so grab gözleme from vendors!). Minibus AC struggled on steep climbs. Solid 4 stars.
