For a day trip that includes history, culture, boat trips and even the chance to swim in our warm and welcoming Mediterranean sea, do not miss our 3 in one tour of the areas of Demre, Myra and Kekova. You’ll have a chance to explore the sunken city of Kekova lying just below the waters surface. We’ll visit the ancient city of Myra where you can still see the ruins of an old Roman amphitheatre and then we’ll see where Father Christmas himself, St Nicholas is buried in the tomb at Demre. Three different experiences and sightseeing classics in one tour.
Your day will begin when your driver collects you from your hotel and takes you through the beautiful, scenic countryside towards Kekova harbour. During the journey we’ll stop off at Sahin Tepesi which allows us a really good lookout over the Kumlaca town and surrounding areas. One our arrival at Kekova harbour we will board a special glass bottomed boat to begin our exploration of the underwater city.
The ancient Lycian city of Kekova was buried under the sea after an earthquake forced the land to slide into the ocean. Since then the water has preserved the building that are now only inhabited by the fish. Our glass bottom boat slowly floats over the town as if you are flying like a bird. You will see ancient monuments and buildings including a Byzantine church and your guides onboard will let you know what each ruin is and the stories connected to them.
Following our one of a kind cruise we’ll set foot on land and begin to explore the town of Myra. This ancient Ltcian town is full of tombs cut out from the rocks. You’ll learn about how life was for the local population living here back in the day and you’ll get a chance to visit the amphitheatre. Theres plenty of photo opportunities around every corner of this tour.
Finally, we’ll visit the town of Demre and the site of the tomb of St Nicholas. Thousands of people come here every year to pray and it is a very important location in the history of this area. The church has been restored and is a very interesting museum now. The interior has very impressive frescoes.
Lunch is included in the full price of this tour. Also included are return transfers and guide fees.
Kemer Pamukkale Tour will be another interesting activity for you.
Your day begins when our driver will come and collect you from your hotel. We will begin driving to Kekova. Along the way we’ll stop at a scenic point perched above the town of Kumlaca. This is a great spot to admire the surrounding countryside and to take our first of no doubt many photos of the day.
Kekova: Upon arrival at Kekova we wil transfer to our glass bottomed boat. This is a really unique way to travel that gives us a fantastic view of what is going on under the waters. We’ll see fish and other marine life swimming by but the thing we’re really here to see is the sunken city of Kekova. This ancient Lycian city was sunk into the water after a huge earthquake in the area. As the boat slowly floats over the ancient ruins your guide will explain what each of the buildings are and the interesting historical tales that they posess. A lot of our younger guests really enjoy this experience as they can see life under the water without getting wet.
Our second exploration site of the day is the city of Myra. Here we will walk through the ancient streets and admire the preserved ruins of old Roman and Ottoman empires. There is an amphitheatre here which is very interesting and the city is full of tombs that have been hand cut out of the rocks. This is a fascinating area to explore and has a rich history. You’ll learn about the history and culture of the area right as you’re standing in the places that the stories and legends happened.
Demre and the tomb of St Nicholas: We’ll then journey to Demre to visit the original tomb of St Nicholas. The legend of father Christmas grows strong here. Thousands of worshippers come to this spot every year to pray. These days the church is a museum and you can enjoy the well looked after frescoes on the walls and ceilings.
Lunch: Lunch is included on the tour and we will enjoy and open buffet at a lovely local restaurant near the St Nicholas church.
