One of the destinations of our Icmeler Istanbul Day Trip is the Blue or Sultanahmet Mosque. This marvelous architectural accomplishment got its name because of the gorgeous blue tiles which decorate the inner walls of the mosque. The mosque was constructed between 1609 and 1616, when the Ottoman Empire was ruled by Ahmed l. The Blue Mosque has six minarets which is quite unusual for a mosque. The legend says that the architect misheard the Sultan, because in Turkish words for “gold” and “six” sound similar.

The Sultan actually wanted a golden minaret, but the architect built six minarets instead. The only mosque that had six minarets back then was the Prophet’s Mosque in Mecca, so the Sultan avoided the problem by ordering a construction of the seventh minaret in Mecca. Like most other mosques the Blue Mosque includes a madrasa, a tomb of its founder, and a hospice. The mosque is a historic site, but it is also an active mosque, so it is not open during the prayer hours. Visitors should dress respectively because they will be entering a religious temple. However, if someone forgets, shawls and appropriate garment are handed near the entrance.

Next site we will be visiting in Icmeler Istanbul Day Trip is the famous Topkapi Palace. The building of Topkapi Palace was ordered by sultan Mehmet ll. The palace is set on top of a tall hill, so it dominates the surrounding areas. The Topkapi Palace was built on top of the old Byzantine ruins. Sultan and his entourage referred of Topkapi as the “New Palace”, but the common local people kept calling it “Topkapi”, which means “Gate of Cannons”. Apparently big cannons that were used during the Conquest, were set outside of the gates of the palace, and thus the name.

Topkapi was the center of the political life back then, and within 400 years as a political home, the palace housed 22 rulers. The palace was first opened as a museum in 1924. Ataturk ordered for it to be opened for public. The Topkapi also features the fifth biggest diamond that has astounding 86 carats. This stunning precious stone is The Spoonmaker’s Diamond, and you shouldn’t miss seeing it.

In Icmeler Istanbul Day Trip, we will also visit a delightful Egyptian or Spice Bazaar. This place is perfect for all of you who want to taste and smell the true fragrances of the delicious exotic East. On this lovely bazaar you can get spices, cheeses, nuts, seeds, teas, handcrafted oil soaps, nuts, a huge array of delicious Turkish sweets and much more. This lovely bazaar is as a part of the New Mosque’s complex in 1664 and it was and still is one of the busiest and most colorful bazaars in Turkey. It was originally built to be a part of the Mosques sources of funding and it is one of the oldest of its kind in Turkey.

On this vibrant place you can buy all of the typical Turkish spices such as the juicy Nar Eksisi, saffron (which is actually a dried safflower), or spicy Pul Biber. Just take your pick, this bazaar has it all! The bazaar is on all routes of Istanbul City Bus Tours, so even without the guided tours this bazaar is always bursting of life.

Once Icmeler Istanbul Day Trip is over, we will go back to the airport and hop on a flight back to Icmeler. We should note that the flight only lasts for around 45 minutes, and once we reach the airport, our vehicle will be waiting to take you back to your resort place in Icmeler.
