What is the best time to visit Pamukkale?

Pamukkale is a natural phenomenon that is very impressive. It can be found in the valley of the beautiful Curuksu River in the southwest of Turkey. Many tourists who go to Turkey on holiday also visit Pamukkale, especially because it is a real experience to see with your own eyes. Pamukkale means Castle of Cotton in Turkish. This has little to do with the meaning but more mentions the appearance of the natural phenomenon. You can visit Pamukkale all year around as the waters on the white cliffs are always hot. You will have the opportunity to swim even in the coldest days of the winter time.

Spring (February to April)

If you’re planning to visit Pamukkale in spring, the best month will be April. The average day temperature starts to rise and varies between 18 and 25 °C. The weather is not too hot to walk around the ancient city of Hierapolis and the white terraces and not too cold at night. But nothing is as unpredictable as the weather so in case of rain make sure you bring warm clothes.

Summer (May to August)

If you decide to go to Pamukkale in the summer, then you will certainly not be the only one, but in that case, it is best to walk around in Pamukkale early in the morning. Don’t forget to bring sun cream, sunglasses, and enough water. It is recommended to book in advance because it is the high season during these months. Although it can get crowded in summer, there are fun local festivals like the cherry festival, seedless Grapes festival, friendship festival and many more. Check the dates of these festivals, so you don’t miss out on all the fun!

Autumn (September to October)

The best time of the year to visit Pamukkale is in autumn to avoid the crowds of tourist buses, and it’s not so hot anymore. The average temperature is between 20 and 30°C. The weather is perfect to swim in Cleopatra’s Pool and walk bare feet around the travertines. Festivals like Watermelon festival, Apple festival, and Music & Cultural festival are organized in these months.

Winter (November to January)

The days are shorter, and the wind can be chilly during the winter months but it is still a great time to visit Pamukkale. You will have the opportunity to take the best photos because it is less crowded and there’s a chance of snow because on some days the temperature can drop below 0°C.
