How many days do you need in Marmaris?

The golden sands where the green, pine clad mountains meet the azure blue sea, draw thousands of tourists each year. Relaxing with your family on the beach, sunbathing or taking a dip in the clear sea is what most people imagine when thinking about Turkey, but there’s more to Marmaris than meets the eye. You can easily fill a week or two in Marmaris / Turkey.

Nature and outdoor life

A safari tour is a great way to see the countryside, whether at a gentle pace on horseback or shanks’ pony or at a faster pace by mountain bike, 4×4 Off-Road Safari or Quad & Buggy Safari.

Water sports

If an exhilarating experience is what you’re looking for, have a go at parasailing, jet skiing or have a ride on a fly fish, air stream or banana boat. A calmer way to enjoy the sea is to rent a boat and soak up the sun on deck or jump into the water for a swim. A single or two-person canoe is another fun water sport.

Marmaris national park

6 km from Marmaris itself, this national park is ideal for camping, trekking, cycling and hiking among other outdoor activities. The beautiful forests are home to oak, pine, plane and wild olive trees, arbutus, colourful oleander bushes and black locust trees. The park is the site of the ancient cities of Physkos and Amos. Cennet Island and the isolated beaches in the area are worth visiting.

Sightseeing trips

A one day boat trip on the Turkish Riviera will take you along the Dalyan canal with views of the Lycian Tombs of the Kings of Kaunos carved into the rock face, finally reaching its destination of Iztuzu Beach with its iconic loggerhead turtles. See Phosphorus Cave, Aquarium Bay and Paradise Island on a boat cruise around Marmaris or venture to the Greek town-island of Rhodes or the natural wonder that is Pamukkale with its snow white travertines and its nearby Hierapolis.

Eating out

One of the best restaurants in Marmaris is the Pineapple Restaurant. Overlooking the sea, with a nice garden and marina, it offers Turkish cuisine combined with excellent service. If you really want to push the boat out, the Goya restaurant offers French cuisine and seafood. At the other end of the scale are Ricky’s Chippy or New York Restaurant and Bar with the Hacis Cafe/Restaurant and Golden River Steakhouse being middle of the range.

Nightlife

In high season, Marmaris is absolutely buzzing with life from all the parties, lazer shows and live music. There’s no shortage of pubs, bars, discos and nightclubs. Or you can take a quiet stroll along the beach if you prefer. To experience the local culture, head down to a ‘meyhane’ (tavern) where local drinks are served. Uzunyalı (Long Beach) has plenty of karaoke/dance bars, discos, restaurants and pubs. After midnight you can head to the hotspot for nightlife, Marmaris Bar Street next to the marina and party until 5am.
