How many days do you need in Icmeler?

Whether you’re travelling from Europe or the US, it’s worth spending at least a week in Icmeler and its surrounding area. You could easily spend two weeks or longer if you’re sporty and like mountain trekking, swimming, scuba diving etc. or if you have an interest in archaeology and want to go on day trips. Even if you just want a relaxing holiday sitting on one of the secluded coves and sampling the local and European cuisine in the evening, you can easily spend a week or two in this idyllic location even on a limited budget. Here are my suggestions:

A Week In Icmeler

On the first day you might want to get over the jet lag by relaxing on one of the quiet beaches with their green mountain backdrop and bright blue sea. You can take a boat trip to the nearby village of Turunc. There’s a restaurant to suit every budget and a wide variety of menus. The bars have evening entertainment with music and dancing, local drinks like wine and beer are quite reasonably priced, imported drinks and cocktails are more expensive. The next day you could try something more energetic like scuba diving. A diving instructor will show you how to swim underwater safely with the equipment if you’re a beginner.

The following day you could go mountain trekking through pine forests, orange groves and stop at local villages. If you love animals you can spend day 4 swimming with dolphins or observing the loggerhead turtles at İztuzu beach. On day 5 you might like to go on an excursion to the ruins of Amos with its amphitheatre and city walls or Marmaris castle, for just 8 Lira/£1 you can explore the castle with its stunning views and spend a couple of hours in the museum. The last 2 days could be spent visiting interesting places like the beautiful Siteler Sirinyer Cami and the marina in Marmaris with its statue of Mustafa Kemal Ataturk. The 19 May Youth Square in Marmaris has statues and a display called the ‘dancing fountains’ in the evening.

Two Weeks In Icmeler

Staying for two weeks or longer gives you and your family the chance to venture further afield. As well as the boat trips to nearby places like Cleopatra Island and the Lycian Kings Tombs, you will have time to go further afield and explore the natural wonder of Pamukkale and ruins of Hierapolis, the UNESCO site of Ephesus, discover the Aegean islands with the chance to go swimming and snorkeling or cool down in the icy waters of Saklikent National Park and visit the nearby ancient city and theatre of Tios. Spring and autumn are ideal times for visiting Turkey’s so-called open air museums but in summer it’s recommended that you visit ruins either early morning or evening.

There’s an almost unlimited number of activities in this region, which is probably what brings the same tourists back year after year.
