The tour unfolded exactly as described, with both positives and negatives. Our guide, arrived on time, but his English was quite limited and he often became confused when we deviated from the planned route. We were first taken by taxi to the less touristy streets near the pyramids, then had a long tuk-tuk ride through the back alleys. This part was actually quite interesting as it gave us a real glimpse of Cairo’s everyday life poverty, scattered trash, and general dirtiness. The market visit was done from the back of the tuk tuk and featured a local market selling fruits, vegetables, and meat, which was fine. Later, we took another taxi to a bridge in central Cairo, where we were asked to walk nearly a mile to reach the lunch stop. This involved crossing some very busy and somewhat dangerous intersections. The lunch itself was just average. Overall, the experience was somewhat underwhelming considering the description and price.
